The Vista Chamber of Commerce and Vista Education Foundation will host the Heroes of Vista Gala presented by Tri-City Medical Center on Saturday, March 20, 2021 at 5:30pm. The live-stream event will be free to watch online –
The Heroes of Vista Gala will feature entertainment from Vista Unified Students and a presentation of awards to community heroes for excellence in education, business, public safety and community leadership.  The 2021 Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to John and Carol Herrera who have worked tirelessly in education for more than fifty years. After retiring as an elementary school teacher and principal, Mrs. Herrera served on the VUSD Board of Trustees for 16 years. Mr. Herrera, a 23 year military veteran a founding member of Vista Education Foundation, has helped to bring music education to VUSD and to connect students with vocational and career opportunities.
John Telles, retired USMC Colonel and Naval Aviator will be honored as the Veteran of the Year. Col. Telles is a veteran of two combat tours in Vietnam flying fighter and helicopter aircraft. His flying achievements include selection as a White House Command Pilot Flying “Marine One” for Presidents Nixon and Ford.  
New this year, the Chamber Champion Award will be presented posthumously to Vista Chamber of Commerce Past-Chairman of the Board, Nick Ljubic. Awards for educators, public safety, health care workers, and business leaders will also be presented.
Bidding for the silent auction begins on March 15. Visit for more information and to register as a bidder or to donate. Proceeds benefit the Vista Education Foundation which provides arts and technology tools for Vista schools.
There is no cost to watch the event live on Saturday, March 20 at 5:30pm. Attendees are encouraged to pre-register with their credit card; however, this is not required to participate. You may also pre-purchase a Gala Box for $75 and enjoy tasty snacks and refreshments while you watch online! This past year our educators, first responders, and small businesses have stepped up for our community. Join us as we celebrate the Heroes of Vista!
